Several weeks ago, my wife and I were traveling on a country road and I shared what was going on in my mind with her. I said “I need to remember that regardless of who becomes the next U.S. President, Jesus is THE Commander in Chief. My trust must always be in Him.” Just as I finished my statement, we were rounding a curve in the road and my wife and I noticed a sign in front of a church building that said, “It’s Not about who Becomes President; Jesus is the King.” We looked at each other big-eyed, reminded of what is true in every moment of life, namely that God knows our very thoughts, even before we have them. In that moment, I sensed His presence in a very real way letting me know that He was watching over us.
As we look to election day (Tuesday, November 8, 2016) at hand, and exercise our great privilege to vote, I’m reminded of the admonishment of the apostle Paul to Timothy in his first letter to Timothy. Quoted below are the first seven verses of the second chapter of first Timothy from the New King James version of the Bible:
“1 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time, 7 for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle—I am speaking the truth in Christ and not lying—a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.”
Friends, it is good to know that the LORD is not wringing His hands over the affairs of life but loves the world and desires all people to know Jesus as Savior. I can know when I pray over matters as Paul exhorted Timothy to pray, I’m praying for what matters most to God.
May God bless each of you.
