I’m a follower of Jesus Christ. It seems to me that money can sometimes be an uncomfortable topic of discussion for those of us who profess to believe in Christ. Many are familiar with the Bible passage (I Timothy 6: 10) where the apostle Paul says that the love of money is the root of all evil. Obviously, talking about money does not equate loving it. In fact, Christians must be willing to have frank discussions about money since we are regarded as God’s stewards in the Bible and, as God’s stewards, it is required that we be found faithful (I Corinthians 4: 2). Financial stewardship is an important area of Christian stewardship.
Money itself is never referred to as evil in the Bible. Again, it is the love of money that is evil. So, having money is not evil; how one looks at it is the critical thing.
Where’s the line between loving money and viewing money properly? Without Christ in my life, I would never venture to touch that question since I possess no wisdom of my own, apart from God’s wisdom, to provide any kind of answer. However, God has much to say in the Bible about the management of the money He entrusts to our care. From God’s Word, the Holy Scriptures of His Bible, wisdom can be gained to see money properly from God’s perspective.
The parable of the talents can be read in Matthew, Chapter 25, verses 14-30. There a person can gain God’s perspective on stewardship over the resources entrusted to us. From that passage, it is clear that He wants us to put His resources to work so that they can multiply…..not to hoard them and cling to them. It is also clear that he does not want us to be afraid to manage His resources.
From the Bible, one can glean that managing financial resources wisely involves the willingness to work hard, to set aside for giving as God directs, to provide for family, and to multiply resources to keep the cycle going. While money may pay for things that bring us momentary pleasures, it can never secure our lives. Only God can do that.
Finally, it is a blessing to have financial resources to invest. As a Christian, I desire to honor God by investing wisely. Investing in common stocks is one means to invest money. My book reflects my understanding of how to make wise choices when it comes to buying common stocks.
Well put, Dad! Ultimately, all of our resources belong to God; we are merely His “trustees” during our time here on earth. We are responsible for each and everything He gives to our possession, whether large or small!!
Great blog article. I appreciate your perspective.
