These are interesting economic times. For example, we are all witnessing a continuation of depressed pricing in the world of commodities. Is this primarily driven by hedge fund activity? Is this primarily driven by declining “real” world-wide demand? Is this somehow a result of the ultra-low interest rate environment and the accompanying flood of newly-printed money? Where are things headed, economically speaking, tomorrow, next year and for people of future generations? I believe such issues are certainly worthy of consideration but while we can speculate, we have no hard answers for such questions and we all need a sense of complete security each and every day toward our futures. If you read in the gospel of Luke, chapter 8, verses 22 through 25 of the Bible, you will find the question in the subject line of this post. It was asked by Jesus, the Lord Christ, of His disciples. I believe it is the most important question of life.
Let me quote the entire passage below found in Luke 8: 22-25 (NIV Bible):
((22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. 23 As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.
24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”
He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. 25 “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples.
In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”))
We all have our faith in something or someone. That is, faith is common to everyone. Yet what I entrust my life, my very eternity to, must be able to deliver. Faith is just a means to an end. The end must be worthy of my faith. It is the object of my faith that matters. The object of my faith must be able to deliver.
I share my heart for stewardship in my book as it reflects my thanksgiving to Christ who Has delivered me from drowning. I believe in no prosperity doctrine where God will make me financially well off if I follow Him. For me, that is heresy.
