National Day of Prayer

Thursday (yesterday) was the National Day of Prayer (here and here for information) where people from all around the country got together in their respective communities to pray for our nation and its people. I am so thankful for all the blessings God bestows on us and I desire to honor His name. It is my privilege to pray for you and I’m so grateful for those who think from time to time to pray for me. God indeed answers prayers and we can call on Him any time of the day, all year long. […]

Like Rodney Dangerfield: The Balance Sheet Gets No Respect

Last week, I shared a link to Jake Taylor’s interview of me with regard to “Choose Stocks Wisely.” During that interview, Jake asked me about my view as to “why” the balance sheet is so disregarded in the market relative to the attention given to earnings. I’m going to address this question again today in a bit more detail. […]

Jacob Taylor’s Interview of Me on 5GQ (Video)

Al, a friend and reader of my book, “Choose Stocks Wisely,” graciously contacted Jacob (Jake) Taylor a short while back with regard to interviewing me about my book. Jake then reached out to me and his skype interview with me took place this past week. A link to the interview video is at the end of this post. […]

Two Income Reports?

Since April 15 has come and gone for another year, I thought a post related to taxes was fitting today. Did you know that corporations file two income reports? […]

Looking For That Catalyst

My entire practice toward stock investments could be stated as “buy” primarily on the balance sheet and “sell” primarily based on earnings. I mention in my book, “Choose Stocks Wisely,” that earnings drive the stock price. Earnings don’t define value under my approach (the balance sheet does) but earnings will be the likely stock price driver if I’m to experience solid returns. […]

Have a Joyful Easter

This is my favorite time of the year. For me, Easter marks a remembrance and celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Each day of the year has great meaning because He has conquered death and the grave forever through His victory over sin. […]

Oil and Gas, Again

Hey dear friends; I wrote about oil and gas just recently but will share a few remarks here again today. I’ve received several good e-mails from readers of my book, Choose Stocks Wisely, in recent weeks. These e-mails have often queried about this company or that one, where the person was noting how discounted a stock was, often trading well below my adjusted floor price. In almost every situation, the company involved was in the oil and gas services sector. […]

Investor Sentiment

Whether referred to as investor sentiment or investor psychology, how investors are feeling toward a company in a given moment clearly impacts the stock price. Stocks can become overpriced due to heightened optimism and undervalued due to growing pessimism. […]

Where Is Your Faith?

If you read in the gospel of Luke, chapter 8, verses 22 through 25 of the Bible, you will find the question in the subject line of this post. It was asked by Jesus, the Lord Christ, of His disciples. I believe it is the most important question of life.

Let me quote the entire passage below found in Luke 8: 22-25 (NIV Bible):

((22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. 23 As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.

24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”

He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. 25 “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples.

In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”))

We all have our faith in something or someone. That is, faith is common to everyone. Yet what I entrust my life, my very eternity to, must be able to deliver. Faith is just a means to an end. The end must be worthy of my faith. It is the object of my faith that matters. The object of my faith must be able to deliver.

I share my heart for stewardship in my book as it reflects my thanksgiving to Christ who Has delivered me from drowning. I believe in no prosperity doctrine where God will make me financially well off if I follow Him. For me, that is heresy.

No, my faith […]

Convertible Debt: Beware (Part II)

Today, I’ll conclude the post I started last week on convertible debt as it relates to the common stock investor’s position. You may want to revisit last week’s post for context. […]
